Southwestern College men's and women's tennis teams picked up key experience against national powerhouse Seminole Junior College last week.  Despite both teams losing 1-8, the Builders and Lady Builders will be able to use the experience of playing great competition as they look forward to conference play later this week. 

Jacob Mires and Jesse Riggs picked up the lone victory for the men's team at #3 doubles.  For the ladies, Sara Peck won her singles match at #5 in a super tie-breaker.

Both the men and women will have one more tuneup match this week before conference play starts this weekend.  On April 4th at 2 PM, the Builders will host Oklahoma Wesleyan.  KCAC action will begin on Saturday, April 7th at 9 AM as Southwestern will host Bethany College.

Hesston, Kan. – Southwestern College women's tennis picked up their first victory of the 2011-12 season with a victory over Hesston College, 8-1.  The Southwestern College men's team struggled to find their rhythm in their 2-7 loss to Hesston.

With this win, the women's team moves to 1-2 on the year.

The men's team moves to 0-3 on the year.

On the women's side, the ladies nearly swept Hesston, only losing at number five singles.  Melissa Roetzer (Dodge City, KS), Kelsey Smith (Winfield, KS), Sara Peck (Wellington, KS), Tyler Harrell (Oklahoma City, OK), and Katie McNett (Wellington, KS) all won their matches in straight sets.  Roetzer & Abby Gengler (Lindsborg, KS), Peck/Smith, and McNett/Harrell all convincingly won their doubles matches.

On the men's side, Max Manley (Coffeyville, KS) and the doubles team of Josh Sapp (Wellington, KS) and Manley won their matches.

The team's next match versus Hesston has been postponed at the current time, stay tuned to www.buildersports.com for updates to the schedule.
