
Rome, Ga. - The Southwestern College men's and women's golf teams competed in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College on Monday and Tuesday. The men finished fifth out of 19 teams while the women finished fourth out of 13 teams.
As a team the Builders finished with a two day total of 596 with a 292 on day one and a 304 on day two. Lee University won the tournament with a 572 overall team score.
Leading the way for the Builders was Tim Jasper (Marthasville, MO) who finished 8th overall. Jasper was tied for the lead after round one with a with opening 69 but struggled on day two shooting 78. Shane Gilbert (Derby, KS) and Chad Richardson (Andover, KS) both tied for 26th place, shooting 150. Raleigh Hughes (Keller, TX) shot back to back 76's to finish in 38th position.
The Lady Builders finished with a two day total of 674, shooting 337 on both days. Shorter University won the tournament with a 629 overall team score.
Freshman Hannah Mason (Andover, KS) continued her excellent and consistent play for the Lady Builders shooting 81, 78 and finishing in 4th place. Courtney Huppert (Trophy Club, TX) struggled on day two but still shot 165 over the two days to finish in a tie for 13th place.
Up next for the Lady Builders is the Stars Fall Classic hosted by Oklahoma City University on October 10-11. The men will have a couple of weeks off before traveling to Texas to compete in the Northwood University Fall Shootout on October 24-25 in Grand Prairie, TX.

Winfield, Kan. - Southwestern College men's golf team won the South Central Kansas Fall Invitational by 14 shots over KCAC rival, Bethany College. The tournament, hosted by Southwestern and played at Winfield Country Club was played under unbelievable conditions and perfect weather. The course played at a length of 6463 yards and to a par of 72.
The meet was the KCAC fall designated meet for the conference standings.
Southwestern had three players place inside of the top 5, including overall winner Raleigh Hughes (Keller, TX). Hughes battled back from a opening round 76 with a tournament low round of 69 on tuesday. Jordan Lytton (Augusta, KS) finished in solo second while Tim Jasper (Marthasville, MO) finished in a tie for fourth place.
"The team played well both days," remarked head golf coach Brad Sexson. "Shooting two sub 300 rounds on a tough course is a real accomplishment."
Southwestern will be in action next week on Monday and Tuesday when they travel to Rome, Georgia to participate in the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College.
