
Hesston, Kan. – Southwestern College women's tennis picked up their first victory of the 2011-12 season with a victory over Hesston College, 8-1. The Southwestern College men's team struggled to find their rhythm in their 2-7 loss to Hesston.
With this win, the women's team moves to 1-2 on the year.
The men's team moves to 0-3 on the year.
On the women's side, the ladies nearly swept Hesston, only losing at number five singles. Melissa Roetzer (Dodge City, KS), Kelsey Smith (Winfield, KS), Sara Peck (Wellington, KS), Tyler Harrell (Oklahoma City, OK), and Katie McNett (Wellington, KS) all won their matches in straight sets. Roetzer & Abby Gengler (Lindsborg, KS), Peck/Smith, and McNett/Harrell all convincingly won their doubles matches.
On the men's side, Max Manley (Coffeyville, KS) and the doubles team of Josh Sapp (Wellington, KS) and Manley won their matches.

Winfield, Kan. – Southwestern College men's and women's tennis teams struggled against NCAA II opponent Newman University, both getting swept 0-9.
Both the men and the women move to 0-2 on the year.
On the men's side, despite having to default the #6 singles and #3 doubles, the men still picked up 31 total games but failed to win a set in the match. Freshman Michael Bond (Andover, KS) led the Builders with 8 total games, losing in straight sets (4-6, 4-6).
On the women's side, Katie McNett (Wellington, KS) lost in a super tie-breaker for the second time this year, losing (6-1, 3-6, 4-10).
"We played pretty well as a team and it was a nice improvement from last year," said number one men's player, Max Manley (Coffeyville, KS).
Both Southwestern teams will travel to Hesston College on September 24th at 11 a.m. (CST).
