OTTAWA, Kan. – After spending a year in Wichita, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship has returned to Winfield. Southwestern College claimed the 2012 KCAC men's cross country title with a 21-point team win over Saint Mary and Friends, which tied for second in the event.

As he's done all season, Frank Adelman led Southwestern in Saturday's race, which was held at Pomona Lake. Adelman claimed the individual championship with an 8K time of 26:09. He finished 55 seconds ahead of teammate Colton McNinch, who finished fifth in 27:04, while Conner Drendel finished 20 seconds later, posting a 10th-place time of 27:24. Sam McDaniel and Eric Lightfoot rounded out the Southwestern score card with 11th-and 12th-place finishes respectively. McDaniel finished in 27:25, while Lightfoot was four seconds later with a 27:29 time.

Eight other Builders competed in the event, but their finished were not calculated into the final team score.

As a team, Southwestern finished with 39 points. The Moundbuilders finished 21 points ahead of Saint Mary and Friends, which tied for second with 60 points.

With Saturday's championship win, the Moundbuilders have earned the right to represent the KCAC at the 2012 NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship. The national championship race will take place on Nov. 17 in Vancouver, Wash.
