WINFIELD, Kan. - Twenty-four players from the Southwestern College women's basketball team partnered with a second grade class from Irving Elementary School on Wednesday, Oct. 17, for a field trip to the Dexter Pumpkin Patch.
Players helped the kids with activities including the pumpkin patch and the corn maize, and then panned for gems and arrowheads. The SC Lady Builders also served the kids a school-provided lunch and ate with the children.
"I had a great time at the pumpkin patch with the second grade class," commented junior Zefiryn Bryan. "It helped me remember how important enjoying each moment in life really is."
"It was really fun watching our student-athletes participate with the kids from the second grade class," said Jason Jeschke, assistant women's basketball coach. "Our girls did a great job making the kids feel special and building relationships with them."
The Lady Builders have adopted Carol Coon's second grade class from Irving Elementary and will be doing multiple projects with the classroom this year.
