
Winfield, Kan. – Southwestern College women's basketball concluded the season sweep of Sterling College on Thursday night, defeating the Lady Warriors, 67-64.
This win improves #16 Southwestern to 16-5 overall and 10-1 in KCAC play.
Southwestern trailed only once in the game (0-2), and built as big as a 16 point lead in the second half. With 9:51 left in the second half, Southwestern led 54-38. In a three minute stretch, Southwestern failed to score and Sterling closed the lead to 54-51. With 2:47 remaining in the half, Sterling tied the game on a fast break basket by Kinsley Hilst. Just eight seconds later, Brett Bates scored on a three point play to regain the lead. Southwestern would not relinquish the lead again, winning by three, 67-64.
Southwestern was led by Brett Bates who scored 15 points. Zefiryn Bryan scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Kaitlin Tennyson made the game sealing basket with 15 seconds remaining. Tennyson scored seven points, grabbed six rebounds, and three steals in the game. Reserve Forward Ellen Blattner controlled the glass on the evening, snagging eight rebounds in just 11 minutes.
Next up for Southwestern is a matchup against the University of St. Mary on Saturday in Leavenworth, Kansas. Tip-off is slated for 5 p.m. (CST).
