Women's Tennis - Wed, Sep. 21, 2011

Winfield, Kan. - Southwestern College women's tennis started off their 2011-12 campaign with a fall series match against Cowley County Community College from nearby Arkansas City, Kansas.  Cowley, a nationally ranked junior college defeated Southwestern 9-0.

This loss takes Southwestern to 0-1 overall.

In doubles, Southwestern only was able to pick up two games between the three matches.

In singles, especially at positions five and six, Southwestern showed a sign of things to come in the 2011-12 season.  Katie McNett (Wellington, KS) won the first set, 7-5, but lost the match in a third set super-tiebreaker.  Freshman Abby Gengler (Lindsborg, KS), playing in the five slot, won eight total games but still fell in straight sets.

Southwestern will look to build upon this match and will take the courts against Newman University today at 4 p.m. (CST).  The match will be held at the Southwestern College tennis courts.
