Lawrence, Kan. - Southwestern College women's golf has won their opening golf tournament of the 2011-12 season at the Ottawa Braves Invitational played at Eagle Bend Golf Course in Lawrence, Kansas.  SC won the tournament by an impressive 36 total strokes on a course playing to a length of 6014 yards and par 72.  

Individual champion, Courtney Huppert (Trophy Club, TX) was one of two players in the entire field to break 80.  On day one, she shot 79 and followed it up with a solid 82 on day two to finish three shots ahead of the second place finisher.

Freshman Hannah Mason (Andover, KS) started her collegiate career on a positive note, shooting 82 and 83 to finish third in the tournament.

All of the Lady Builders finished inside the top 15, with Chelsea Nemeth (Halstead, KS) 179, Hannah Watkins (Emporia, KS) 187, and Jacquelyn McCauley (Ulysses, KS) 188 rounded out the five participants for SC.

Southwestern will be in action next week on Monday and Tuesday as they host the South Central Kansas Fall Invitational.  Both the men and the women will go off in the morning, starting off of both sides.  The tournament will be held at Winfield Country Club.
