Winfield, Kan. - Southwestern College men's tennis started off their 2011-12 campaign with a fall series match against Cowley County Community College from nearby Arkansas City, Kansas.  Cowley, a nationally ranked junior college defeated Southwestern 9-0.

This loss takes Southwestern to 0-1 overall.

In doubles, the team of Max Manley (Coffeyville, KS) and Josh Sapp (Wellington, KS) battled but came up one break short of getting a victory at the number one position.  Nick Morris (Kiowa, KS) and freshman Michael Bond (Andover, KS) struggled at number two doubles, losing 2-8.  Southwestern had to default at the number three position.

In singles the Builders picked up 21 total games and one set but failed to win any of the five matches.  Southwestern defaulted the number six singles slot.

"This was the most games our men's tennis team has won against  the nationally ranked team at Cowley in years," said head coach Randy Smith

Southwestern will look to build upon this match and will take the courts against Newman University on September 21st.  The match is slated to start at 4:00 p.m. (CST) at Southwestern College tennis courts.
