OTTAWA, Kan. – The Southwestern College men's soccer team suffered its 10th loss of the season Wednesday evening. The Moundbuilders fell to the Braves of Ottawa University, 1-0, on a wet pitch inside People's Bank Field in Ottawa, Kan.
Sophomore Ivan Canales took three shots, all of which were on-goal, in the match, but was unable to convert any of them for a goal. Fernando Salazar and Innocent Niyonkuru took two shots each. Junior keeper Dean Wilson made seven saves. The only blemish on his sheet for the evening was the game-winner.
The Braves out-shot Southwestern (0-10, 0-3 KCAC), 17-9. Ottawa put 11 of its 17 shots on target, while seven of the nine Moundbuilder shots were on-frame. Both teams took six corner kicks.
Ottawa (4-5-1, 2-1 KCAC) scored the only goal of the match late in the first half. The 39th-minute goal broke a scoreless draw, and gave the Braves the 1-0 advantage they went on to win by.
Wednesday's loss drops Southwestern to 0-10 on the season, and 0-3 in KCAC play. The Moundbuilders will return home Saturday, hosting the Panthers of York College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 inside Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
