WICHITA, Kan. – The Southwestern College football team will open its 2017 campaign with very few expectations, at least in the eyes of football coaches and media members from across the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Moundbuilders were picked tenth in both KCAC preseason polls, which were released Thursday at the annual KCAC Football Media Day, which took place at the Hotel at Old Town in Wichita.

Southwestern received 22 votes in the coaches' poll, finishing 2 votes behind McPherson.

The 22 media members in attendance echoed the coaches' sentiments. Southwestern earned 50 points in the media poll, just one point behind McPherson who was picked ninth.

The 2017 Moundbuilders will feature a squad of better than 100 student-athletes, with about 70 new athletes.  Southwestern will return about 60 lettermen from the 2016 squad in hopes of improving their 2-8 record.

Southwestern will open its 2017 campaign on Sept. 2, hosting Hastings College in the KCAC-GPAC Challenge.  Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
