KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 1,677 teams that have earned the distinction of Scholar-Teams for the 2016-17 academic year.
Southwestern College was represented on the list by its men's tennis, women's tennis, women's soccer and women's outdoor track and field programs.
The Lady Builder tennis program posted a 3.80 team grade point average, which was the highest team grade point average in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, and the ninth-highest mark in the NAIA. The women's soccer team finished the year with a 3.23 team GPA, while the men's tennis team was close behind at 3.21. Women's outdoor track and field posted a 3.05 team GPA for the season.
For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 G.P.A. (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
