Men's Soccer - Thu, Jul. 13, 2017

WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College Head Men's Soccer Coach, Kyle Pond, has added four more student-athletes to his 2017 roster. Alex Perez, Caleb Caskey, Anthony Cano and Rukari Pate have each submitted letters of intent to continue their education and soccer careers at Southwestern College.

Alex Perez (5-11 – 140 – MF – Frisco, Texas – Brookhaven CC)
Perez will join the Moundbuilders after spending a year at Brookhaven College in Farmers Branch, Texas, where he received the Academic Outstanding Character Award. He played club soccer with the Texans Soccer Club, where he helped his team win the Austin Labor Day Cup and nine different showcase tournaments.

"We have been watching Alex for several years and we are extremely excited to add him to the Moundbuilder family," Pond said. "Alex will bring composure and quick decision making all over the field, and he comes from a terrific family. He is a perfect fit for our program."

Caleb Caskey (6-2 – 200 – D – Frisco, Texas – Liberty HS)
Caskey comes to Southwestern from Liberty High School in Frisco, Texas, where he was a varsity member of the Redhawks soccer team. He also played club soccer for the Dallas Texans 98, which he helped lead to three tournaments as a starter. Most recently, the Texans won the Dallas Open Cup.

"Caleb is a great young defender with tremendous size and talent," Pond said. "He comes to Southwestern with a tremendous amount of support, which is a great representation of his character. We have very high expectations for, and a lot of faith in Caleb."

Anthony Cano (5-9 – 155 – MF – North Richland Hills, Texas – Birdville HS)
Cano will join the Mounbuilders after graduating from Birdville High School in North Richland Hills, Texas, where he was the 2017 All-District MVP, and was named to the 2017 Fort Worth Star Telegrarm Super Team as a Forward/Midfielder. Those accolades came on top of Second Team All-District honors in 2015 and 2016.

"Anthony is an extremely gifted young player," Pond said. "He is comfortable in one-on-one situations, and is a true work horse. With his ability and determination, the sky is the limit, and we look forward to seeing him terrorize defenses for years to come."

Rukari Pate (5-10 – 155 – D – Euless, Texas – Colleyville Heritage HS)
Pate comes to Southwestern from Colleyville Heritage High School in Colleyville, Texas, where he was a four-year varsity starter, and earned 2017 Second Team All-District accolades. He was the team captain for the FC Dallas U19 team, and was a member of the 2017 Allen Showcase all-tournament team. Pate also was a 2012 futsal champion, and was a member of two State Cup semi-final teams.

"We couldn't be happier to add Rukari to our program," Pond said. "He has a great amount of technical ability and has a truly terrific attitude. The energy he brings to those around him will be a pleasure for coaches and teammates to experience.

Southwestern will open its 2017 campaign on Aug. 26, when the Lions of Southwestern Assemblies of God pay a visit to Winfield. Kick-off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. on the turf of Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
