FOLEY, Ala. – The Southwestern College track and field team kicked off the first day of the NAIA Outdoor Nationals in Gulf Shores, Ala. Thursday afternoon. Here is a recap of what the Builders were up to today!
11:30 a.m. – The Builders left the hotel to grab some lunch before the meet began.
1:20 p.m. – After eating lunch and relaxing for a little while, the team made their way to the complex.
2:00 p.m. – Opening Ceremonies began at the stadium and Bailey Collier was recognized as an NAIA Champion of Character.
4:00 p.m. – The Builders competed in their first race of Outdoor Nationals. Junior Taylor Needham ran in the 400 Meter Hurdle Prelims. Needham won the heat that she competed in and finished with a time of 1:00.87. She will compete in the final race on Saturday, May 27 at 4:10 p.m.
4:30 p.m. – The team got out of the sun, humidity, and wind. They made their way back to the hotel.
6:20 p.m. – The Builders went back to the complex. Taylor Needham was recognized for winning the
Women's Track Athlete of the Year in the South Central Region. Needham had a season-best performance in the 400 Meter Hurdles with a time of 59.72.
7:30 p.m. – The Builders ate dinner and headed back to the hotel to settle in for the night.
The meet continues Friday, May 26. Kari Blattner will run in the 800 Meter Run Prelims, Tomunci Whitfield will run in the 100 Meter Dash Prelims, and Kari Blattner, Taya' Buchanan, Justine Vogele, and Taylor Needham will run in the 4x400 Meter Relay Prelims.
