WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College Head Men's Basketball Coach Matt O'Brien has announced the first members of his 2016-17 recruiting class. Seven student-athletes from six different states have submitted their letters of intent to continue their education and basketball careers as Moundbuilders next season.
William Lewis (6-0 – G – Pleasanton, Calif. – Foothill HS)
Lewis will come to Southwestern from Foothill High School in Pleasanton, Calif., where he averaged 10 points and 2 rebounds per game, while serving as a team captain for the Falcons during his senior season. He shot 80.6 percent from the free throw line, and was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Stonebarger Tournament.
Alec Seyfetdinov (6-4 – F – Plano, Texas – Plano West HS)
Seyfitdinov comes to Southwestern from Plano West High School in Plano, Texas, where he was a two-year varsity starter for the Wolves. He scored a career-high 23 points in a game during his senior season, and was an 80 percent free throw shooter, while earning the team's 2015-16 Hustle Player of the Year award for taking 29 charges in 31 games.
Alex O'Neal (6-4 – G – Frisco, Colo. – Summit HS)
O'Neal will join the Moundbuilders after completing his high school career at Summit High School in Breckenridge, Colo. After playing on the nationally-ranked program at Denver East High School, which won the 2014 Colorado 5A state championship, O'Neal transferred to Summit, where he was the captain of the varsity team. He also was named the team's offensive MVP during his junior season, and was selected to the all-conference Second Team. He did not play his senior season due to injury.
"We are excited for Alex," O'Brien said. "I'm happy that he will have the opportunity to play again after the disappointment of being injured during his senior year."
Daniel Swisher (5-8 – G – Inman, Kan. – Inman HS)
Swisher will join the Moundbuilders after completing his high school career at Inman High School in Inman, Kan. He did not play in his senior season for the Teutons due to injury.
"Daniel is a dual-sport athlete who comes to Southwestern with high character and a strong work ethic," O'Brien said.
Jordan Hall (5-10 – G – Clermont, Fla. – Lake Minneola HS)
Hall comes to Southwestern from Lake Minneola High School in Clermont, Fla.
Lee Schrader (6-2 – G/F – Minneola, Kan. – Minneola HS)
Schrader will join the Moundbuilders upon graduation from Minneola High School in Minneola, Kan., where he was a multi-sport starter for the Wildcats' football, golf and basketball teams. He helped lead Minneola to the 2013 Kansas 1A State Championship tournament. Off the court, Schrader is a four-time honor roll student, served as the STUCO Vice President, was a member of the National Honor Society, and a four-time honoree of the Lamp of Knowledge.
"Lee's work ethic and character will add to our basketball program and the overall campus at Southwestern," O'Brien said.
Anthony Hickman (6-9 – F – Woodward, Okla. – Woodward HS)
Anthony Hickman 6-9 Woodward, OK. Anthony will graduate with honors. He was a four year letterman on the basketball team. All tournament team in the Weatherford Tournament as a junior. National Honors Society member for two years. He will also be participating in the area All Star Game, the K101 Classic Bowl.
"We are very excited about coaching Anthony," O'Brien said. "He has size and skill which will help our program."
