ANDOVER, Kan. – Southwestern College seniors Landon Fox and Brian Peck shared top honors, and helped the Moundbuilder men's golf team to a second-place finish at the 2017 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season Tournament. The three-round, two-day event concluded Tuesday at Terradyne Country Club in Andover.
They took different routes to get there, but Fox and Peck finished atop the leaderboard with identical scores. Fox opened his tournament with a three-over-par round of 74 on Monday morning, but shaved six strokes off during Monday's second trip around Terradyne's links-style layout to finish at 68. He met his Monday scores in the middle during Tuesday's final round, when he finished one-over-par at 72 for a 54-hole score of 214.
Peck, meanwhile, took a more consistent approach. He opened the event with a one-over-par score of 72 during Monday's first round, then took a stroke off to finish even at 71 in Monday's second round. Entering Tuesday's final round in fourth place, Peck posted another even-par round, and moved his way up the leaderboard to finish tied with Fox at 214 for the tournament's top honors.
Senior Kyle Karpe finished 14 strokes behind both Fox and Peck with a 228 (77-77-74) for the tournament. Fellow senior Jonah Pfingsten was eight strokes behind Karpe at 236 (76-81-89), while junior Troy Fort rounded out the Moundbuilder team scorecard at 244 (81-78-85).
Darren Reed and Chase Carr competed as individuals in the event. Reed finished 35th with a 54-hole total of 242 (80-80-82), while Carr was 11 strokes back at 253 (78-81-94).
As a team, Southwestern finished second in the eight-team field with a team score of 889 (299-294-296). The Moundbuilders finished five strokes ahead of third-placed Bethany, but trailed tournament champion Oklahoma Wesleyan by 15 strokes.
The Moundbuilders are back in action on April 4, traveling to Hutchinson for the Midwest Spring Fling, which will take place at Cottonwood Hills Golf Course.
