WINFIELD, Kan. – Southwestern College freshman Franco Poi has been named the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. The weekly awards, which are voted upon by Sports Information Directors across the KCAC, were released Tuesday by conference officials.

Poi clinched the win for the Moundbuilders in their only match of the week. The freshman fought off Southwestern Christian's Mitchell Vechione in a third-set thriller (6-2, 6-7 (6), 10-7) on the No. 1 singles court in the deciding match of Friday's dual with the Eagles. The win moved Poi's singles record to 6-2 on the season, with his only two losses coming to NCAA Div. II opponents. He also teamed with freshman Stephen Le to hand SCU's No. 3 doubles tandem of Nguyen/Coleman an 8-2 loss to open the dual. The doubles win pushed Poi's doubles mark to 6-3 overall, and 6-1 against NAIA opponents.

Poi and the Moundbuilders will return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Hesston for a pair of junior college scrimmages. The Moundbuilders will face Barton Community College at noon, before facing the Larks of Hesston College at 4 p.m.
