WINFIELD, Kan. – Six home games, and a pair of first-time meetings between non-conference opponents highlight the 2017 Southwestern College football schedule. The Moundbuilders will open and close their season on their home turf.

The 119th season of Moundbuilder football will begin under the lights of Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Sept. 2 when the Broncos of Hastings College pay a visit to Winfield. Hastings will represent the Great Plains Athletic Conference in the game, which will be played as part of the third-annual KCAC-GPAC Challenge. The Broncos finished the 2017 season with a 4-7 overall record, and a 1-7 mark against GPAC opponents. The Sept. 2 meeting will represent the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Southwestern will hit the road in Week 2, traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, for the program's second game in as many years against a member of NCAA Div. I's Football Championship Subdivision. The Moundbuilders will meet the Bulldogs of Drake University for the first time in program history. Kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside the historic 14,000-seat Drake Stadium, which also hosts the world-renowned Drake Relays each spring.

The Moundbuilders will hit the road to open Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play, making the trip to Sterling to face the Warriors of Sterling College. Sterling qualified for the national championship playoff in 2016, and finished tied for second in the 2016 conference standings with a 7-2 mark against KCAC opponents. The Sept. 16 kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m at Smisor Stadium, which features the only remaining natural grass playing surface in the KCAC.

Southwestern will conclude the month of September with back-to-back conference games. McPherson will visit Richard L. Jantz Stadium on Sept. 23, with Kansas Wesleyan traveling to Winfield on Sept. 30.

The Moundbuilders will renew their rivalry with the Falcons of Friends University on Oct. 7 in Wichita, and will remain on the road the following week for a trip to Hillsboro to take a shot at the defending KCAC-Champion Bluejays of Tabor College on Oct. 14. Southwestern will return home to host Bethany on Oct. 21, before hosting the Threshers of Bethel College for the annual Homecoming game on Oct. 28.

Southwestern will make its final regular season road trip of the 2017 season on Nov. 4, traveling to Ottawa to face the Ottawa University Braves, and the regular season will come to a close on Nov. 11, when the University of Saint Mary comes to Winfield for Senior Day.
