Meet the Builders...
Second-year head coach Joseph Yeisley hit the recruiting trail hard after the 2012-13 season. The new-look Builders added several new faces to the squad. Southwestern has 17 freshmen looking to turn over a new leaf in the soccer program. In addition, 14 junior college transfers will be asked to share their playing experience with the underclassmen in the hopes of improving upon the team's 1-16-1 record in 2012.
Southwestern opened its season Thursday with a 1-0 loss to Southwestern Assemblies of God. The Moundbuilders played the Lions evenly throughout the contest, but a late penalty kick proved to be the deciding factor in the match.
Scouting Dallas Christian...
Friday's match will be the first match of the season for the Crusaders. Head Coach Brad Rogers will bring a sophomore-heavy squad into Jantz Stadium. Of the 14 men that comprise the 2013 DCC squad, seven are sophomores, while four are juniors, two are freshmen and one is a senior. Southwestern defeated DCC 3-1 last season in Dallas.
Southwestern will play its next match on Tuesday, traveling to Joplin to challenge the Ozark Christian College Ambassadors. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the soccer field on the OCC campus.
