
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Southwestern College men's golf team opened its 2013 Spring season Monday and Tuesday at the San Antonio Shootout. The Moundbuilders finished eighth in the field of 13.
Shane Gilbert led the Moundbuilders in the 36-hole event, which was played at the Canyons Course at the TPC San Antonio. Gilbert opened with a round of 79 (+7), but shaved three strokes off that score in the second round for a 76 (+4), and finished 16th win a tournament score of 155. Bobby Weidner and Seth Bryan finished with scores of 158 and 159, respectively. Weidner carded back-to-back rounds of 79 (+7), while Bryan opened with an 80 (+8), and closed with a 79 (+7). Justin Churchill finished seven strokes behind Bryan, riding rounds of 81 (+9) and 85 (+13) to a 36-hole score of 166. Luke Arneson rounded out Southwestern's scorecard with a 176 (91-85).
Jake Henson participated in the tournament as an individual. His rounds of 95 (+23) and 89 (+17) did not count toward Southwestern's team score.
As a team, the Moundbuilders posted a two-round team score of 638. Southwestern finished one stroke ahead of Texas-Brownsville and Northwood (Texas), but trailed Lubbock Christian by two strokes. Oklahoma City won the event with a team score of 607.
Southwestern will return to action March 11, traveling to Fort Worth, Texas, for the UST Mamiya Texas Intercollegiate.
